Keeping The Good Look
Carpet will forever fall victim to dirt, spills and other rigors of daily household life, but there are ways to fight back. 3M, maker of Scotchgard™ protector and stain release found on most Mohawk carpet products, is a carpet’s first line of defense.
But the cleaning experts at 3M say there are some things you can do to help. “most spills and stains, can be removed,” says Denise Loxton, carpet care specialist at the Scotchgard Service Center, “especially if your carpet has been protected ahead of time. “After cleaning, reapplication of a protective treatment is recommended to maintain your carpet’s appearance,” she added. |

The best things you can do are to use entrance mats to trap soil before it gets into your home, vacuum regularly to remove dulling, abrasive particles, blot up spills immediately and deep clean periodically. Whether a stain can be removed and to what degree depends largely on your carpet’s soil and stain protection treatment.

Designers Challenge
Create a Distinctly Masculine Room
Pull out the cigars. It takes a lot to create the masculine room, and the first thing to think about is scale. Note the more massive nature of things versus the delicate elements on the previous pages. Next, color is significant. In the photo on the left, brown, tan and black repeat the sense of leather, stone and iron in a relatively large room. The straighter and bolder manly lines are softened a bit with a textured carpet that’s neutral but a strong one.
In the photo, the room is less large but the sense of scale remains bold. |
